T-Mobile’s “Parking Ticket” ad, which films angry motorists who’ve been tricked into thinking they’ve been fined, has scooped UTalkMarketing People’s Choice award.
The mobile brand is infamous for its stunt ads, and its latest work proves no exception. During the ad’s making, thousands of UK motorists were secretly filmed being given fake parking tickets and getting angry with an approaching traffic warden. On closer inspection however the tickets turn out to be gifts of banknotes, prompting anger to turn to smiles and even hugs.
T-Mobile filmed hundreds of hours of footage and then edited it down into this two-minute ad. Actors and comedians were drafted in to play the parts of the fake traffic wardens.
The ad promotes the brand’s You Fix tariff. Spencer McHugh, director of brand, T-Mobile, said, “That sinking feeling you get when you return to your car to find a bright yellow parking fine plastered on the window is all too familiar for millions of motorists so we’re hoping to raise a few smiles with our ad and give motorists a surprise they won’t be expecting.
“We wanted to demonstrate in a fun and engaging way T-Mobile’s new plan, You Fix, which helps customers control their spending and ensure they never get a surprise bill at the end of the month.”
The ad came tops in the UTalkMarketing People’s Choice – our weekly poll, held in collaboration with OMD Snapshots where we ask 1,000 members of the public to vote for their favourite advert currently in the marketplace.
It received 21% of the vote, placing it ahead of the first runner-up, when participants were asked, "Which of the adverts made you want to buy the product or service advertised?"
