Mobile provider, Orange is to launch a new kinetic energy charger powered by dancing as part of its music festival activity this summer.
The trial will see users throwing shapes to create enough power to make calls and texts from their handsets.
The new development will also be backed by the unveiling of updates to a mobile wind charger, launched by the brand last year.
A downloadable java application is also set to be launched. Designed for most mobile phones and with an interactive map, it offers users all the latest festival information so they don’t miss their favourite bands.
On-site activity will involve a Chill n’ Charge Tent. The 800 square metre multi-media tent will allow an expected 70,000 festivalgoers to pass through to recharge their mobile phones at one of 600 charging points.
Phone users will also be able to update profiles on their favourite social network sites by using one of 32 broadband points which are situated within the tent all whilst being entertained by a great line up of live music scheduled throughout the weekend.
Orange will also have a celebrity diarist reporting throughout the festival, following the success of Peaches’ video diaries last year.
Online at spotthebull.co.uk, users have the opportunity to win tickets to Glastonbury by guessing where the bull will be standing in the field at 3pm each day. Players are able to win up to 8 tickets for themselves and their mates.
Head of Partnerships at Orange UK, Hattie Magee, said “We’ve been involved in some great promotions and innovations and 2008 is sure to deliver even more amazing stories and experiences from the farm.
“It may have rained at the festival over the last few years but it’ll take more than that to dampen the spirits of the UK festival goers.”
