Forget corporate high street chains for edgy shop window displays and visual merchandising genius. Independent boutiques can escape diktats from head offices and sometimes create their own bit of magic on a shoestring.
We’ve gathered examples of some of the best shop windows on display this month in a bid to provide some inspiration to shop managers around the UK.
The Hoxton Boutique (above)
The window display is light, summery and funky. The dresses are raised up on poles to accentuate the cut of material. There is a flashing Hoxton Boutique sign in the window, which adds a bit of disco/glam to the design. Just in the window there's a large disco ball and more inside leading to the collections.
Is a skater’s paradise of a store. It's very arty and design based, with long hanging light bulbs featured like a piece of installation art above the main desk/till. The outside doors are black and 'alternative' in spirit.
This fun barbers shop is ‘Sweeney Todd’ themed, with a fabulous window display that features pork pies, a picture of Johnny Depp from the film and a white shirt on a mannequin covered in fake blood. It's eye catching and funny, and meant to amuse potential customers, not repel them.
This retro fashion shop is an explosion of colour and vibrancy. In the window are various items of clothing, hung, draped and pinned to models and the walls. There is a lot of colour and the accessories have been arranged in a small cabinet to resemble someone’s vanity closet.
