Sellotape has invested £2.5m in a major TV ad campaign that will see the nation’s No.1 tape put to the test in the run up to Christmas.
The TV ad campaign, one of the biggest in the brand’s history, will see 900 TVRs hitting some of the biggest terrestrial and sky channels over its five weeks on air. The advert aims to reach 87% of the brand’s target market, with some 23 million households seeing the ad before Christmas.
Sellotape is the one shopping basket essential this Christmas - a staggering 7 million rolls are expected to be sold in the run up to Christmas (enough to go from London to Lapland 167 times!).
In this clever TV campaign, the leading sticky tape reminds viewers that it is more than just the ‘generic’ name for tape; it is the number one brand and product for good reason.
Sellotape invests heavily in its product development ensuring that the tape on the market is the best available. Its strength and stickiness is demonstrated in this fun TV campaign that sees a series of ‘Experiments’ with Sellotape air in the run up to Christmas.
The first sees a boy wearing a homemade snowman costume stuck together with Sellotape submitted to a rigorous wobble on a vibrating plate.
“The campaign was designed to demonstrate Sellotape’s ability to surpass the quality of other tapes in the market; to show that Sellotape is the leading tape because it is the strongest and stickiest tape in the market,” said Elpida Stavrou, Sellotape Senior Brand Manager.
“We relaunched Sellotape this year, after more that 70 years in the UK market, with the proposition ‘Simple Ingenuity’. This ad campaign further demonstrates how Sellotape helps its customers come up with simple and ingenious solutions. “
Stavrou added, “The ideas for our ad campaign derived from customer feedback showing wonderful and quirky uses for Sellotape. We have developed an online strategy inspired by the TV campaign and the many uses of Sellotape.
“Customers will be directed to the new Sellotape website at the end of each TV advert, where they will have the opportunity to upload videos of their unique Sellotape experiments – testing the tapes and showing how Sellotape truly is part of the every day life of Brits.”
Sellotape says ‘Every Roll, inspired by you’ and with this TV advert, they really capture this message. The advert will air until Christmas Eve.
