Former F1 world champion Nigel Mansel stars alongside Omid Djalili in a new ad for moneysupermarket.com to promote its car insurance offering.
The latest execution featuring the comedian continues the theme of British people’s inability to haggle and is set in Nigel’s home, where he is seen playing with a Scalextric set whilst negotiating a new car insurance rate over the phone.
On hearing an over-priced quote, the ex-British racing car driver squeezes his Scalextric controller in annoyance, causing the car to shoot off the track into the hands of Omid, who is clad in a heavily-branded F1 moneysupermarket.com jumpsuit.
The comedian contrasts Nigel’s world-class skill at negotiating a hair-pin bend with his British way of negotiating cheaper car insurance. He suggests that moneysupermarket.com should be Nigel’s first port of call for a great, and painless, deal.
The spot is targeted at drivers looking to renew their car insurance. It aims to support the brand’s positioning as the place to go to save money on everything in life – from car insurance to credit cards.
It is the seventh ad in a series this year, which sees Omid who is British, but whose family is originally from the Middle East, contrast British reserve with the Middle Eastern approach where price negotiation is embedded in the culture.
