Client: The Sun
The Sun has released a new ad, which spoofs Apple’s iPhone ads, to celebrate the paper’s 40th birthday and promote the paper to the online community.
It was originally intended for the web only, but after clocking over 430,350 views online in only 19 days Sun bosses decided to give it the star treatment by showing it during the ad break of the ‘X Factor’ final results show.
The ad comically showcases The Sun as if the paper is a piece of cutting-edge technology, with features such as ‘inbuilt games’ and ‘photo 3D graphics’, highlighting the news, sport and entertainment content that has made it the best selling newspaper of the last 40 years.
The original version was shot and edited by glue’s in-house digital film department and was slightly amended for the 60 second TV spot.
The original viral was supported by a seeding plan from Unruly Media and iLevel. TV media buying was handled by Mindshare.
