Agency: AMV BBDO
Client: Famous Grouse
A new Famous Grouse ad sets to contrast the enduring fame of the brand with the superficial, fleeting fame prevalent in today’s Z-List celebrity loving culture.
It aims to increase even further the understanding that The Famous Grouse has a real reason to be Famous; its been Scotland’s No.1 selling or indeed its favourite whisky for almost 30 years.
In the execution a pampered Chihuahua (complete with a diamante studded coat) struts across screen accompanied by a slightly tacky music track and the screams and camera flashes of a watching crowd until it encounters our Famous Grouse.
They share a moment and then both react accordingly. The Chihuahua quickly exits stage left. The focus remains on The Famous Grouse who turns his head to follow the dog off screen before turning back to us with a quizzical raised eyebrow as if to say “what on earth was that?”
This is followed by a shake of the head and shudder to make his feelings apparent. The now familiar Famous Grouse theme tune is brought up to accompany his turn and walk off to adopt his final and famous pose.
The bottle morphs in around him and the words ‘Famous for a reason – Scotland’s Favourite Whisky’ appear on screen to end the commercial.
“The advert is a lighthearted take on the current obsession with fame and what it means to be famous,” said director of The Famous Grouse, Gerry O’Donnell.
“Having been Scotland’s no. 1 selling whisky since 1980 we believe The Famous Grouse has good reason to be called Famous.”
He added, “Every year we are inundated with emails and letters about our TV ads. So we hope our fans will enjoy this new TV ad as much as all the others.”
