Ryan Air is not known for its subtley and its latest viral is no different.
Based on the tinny tune that announces the start of the trolley service, Mr Superfly is the brainchild of Lou Mullenger, a songwriter who realised the commercial potential of the music after hearing her seven-year old daughter whistle the tune incessantly during a flight.
Ryan Air teamed up Arnon Woolfson, who recently launched specialist brand and music partnership agency Howling Wolf Group, to co-promote the single.
Ryanair will promote sales of Mr Superfly merchandising and the single release across its fleet and on Ryanair.com. The airline has even promised that if Mr Superfly reaches number one it will offer free flights on selected routes for as long as the song remains a chart-topper.
Ryan Air has high hopes for the character and has commissioned an animated TV series and children’s book.
Ryanair deputy chief executive Michael Cawley said, “We are delighted to team up with Mr. Superfly Ltd in the promotion of the Mr.Superfly song and its associated products on board our aircraft and on www.ryanair.com. Exposure to Ryanair’s 58 million passengers is certain to make the song a massive commercial success and rescue the pop charts.”
