Despite her sickly voice Hilary Duff has a serious message.
The Material Girls star appears in the latest campaign from America’s public service advertisers Ad Council which is trying to urge young people to think about the potentially homophobic words they use everyday.
‘Think Before You Speak’ shows two air-head girls describing a top as “so gay” before being interrupted by the actress who tells them to think about the words they use.
The series of adverts aims to raise awareness about the use of, even unintentionally, homophobic remarks, especially among teenagers.
Curb Your Enthusiasm commedian Wanda Sykes stars in another TV spots for the adverts, which end with the strap line “When you say, ‘That’s so gay,’ do you realize what you say? Knock it off.”
The pro bono adverts were created by ArnoldNYC and includes outdoor, print, radio, TV and internet advertising.
Teens are directed to a website where they are invited to come up with alternatives to the phrase “that’s so gay”, can send e-cards and upload to a video library.
Not unusually web critics have already accused the campaign of taking use of the phrase too seriously. What do you think?
