PETA has unveiled its newest campaign in the States.
On a towering SoHo billboard, drag icon Lady Bunny appears in a fluorescent mini-dress holding up KFC's trademark striped bucket next to the tagline "Sometimes Big Bright Packages Contain Dirty Little Secrets."
Beneath the double entendre, the ad describes Colonel Sanders' "secret recipe" as cruelty to animals and urges people to "kick the bucket" and join the growing
According to PETA Senior Vice President Dan Mathews, not only does embracing the gay community make PETA gay-friendly, it also establishes animal rights in a community known for setting trends.
"Gays are often targeted by branding companies that are looking to make their products cool, so it just follows that PETA should do the same to make certain products uncool," says Mathews, who has organized "Fur Is a Drag" runway parodies in nightclubs during Fashion Week in New York,
London, and Paris.
Mathews has also recruited Ellen DeGeneres, Margaret Cho, and Sandra Bernhard for animal rights-themed stand-up performances at PETA galas.
