Agency: McCann Erickson
McCann Erickson London has created a 30” and 60” ” brand TV commercial for MasterCard for the official start of summer.
The ad is part of MasterCard’s new cross border £1.5 million travel campaign. The aim of the campaign is to establish MasterCard as the credit card of choice when travelling abroad and to stimulate cross border transactions.
The ad was shot over three days at Stansted Airport, West Hertfordshire College in Watford and Palma, Mallorca. There were over 150 extras used in the shoot!
The ad starts with clock watching office workers across the UK exploding out of the workplace as soon the clock hits five o’clock. The group of office workers suddenly grow into a stampeding herd as they run down the high street. It’s real end of term childish excitement as the mob jump into taxis and head for the airport.
They are all desperate to go on holiday and hurl their luggage at the check in desk. Once they arrive abroad they charge through the hotel, much to the surprise of the hotel guests. The ad culminates in the jubilant office workers jumping fully clothed into the hotel swimming pool. Knowing you’ve earned every second: Priceless.
The brand campaign will run over a two month period from July to August in conjunction with brand press and online. There is also a ‘Priceless Escapes’ promotion which offers up a £10,000 prize each week for eight weeks for MasterCard holders who use their card abroad. The promotion is communicated via press, In-Flight TV, online and ambient media.
Both the brand and promo communication will direct consumers to the microsite pricelesstravel.co.uk. The microsite will feature the TV brand ads, the promotion and city guides with lots of information about places to go
The soundtrack throughout the whole ad is the foot stomping and anthemic track ‘School’s Out’ by Alice Cooper.
