Readers ‘of a certain age’ will be more than familiar with Cyndi Lauper.
‘Girls Just Want To Have Fun’? Well, they certainly did in the 1980s. A stream of hits followed including , ‘Time After Time’, ‘True Colours’ and a cover of Roy Orbison’s ‘I Drove all Night’.
In the world of pop there’s nothing like a bit of a make over and re-invention. Dammit, Madonna went so far as to call her 2004 World Tour, the Re-Invention Tour.
Madge – and dare we say Kylie – might be masters of the art but we’re not so sure of this latest venture from Ms Lauper.
Her latest video has a definite air of “trying too hard” about it. The woman will be 55 this month yet she’s now trying to score a dance hit with ‘Into the Nightlife’.
Thing is, she spends most of the shoot ‘dancing’ on her own. Strange when there’s no shortage of potential male candidates for her dancecard.
Unfortunately these gym-toned guys seem more interested in dancing with each other with their tops off. Funny that.
When Madonna and Kylie have got the pink market pretty much locked down this gesture from Cyndi rates pretty desperately.
But we could still be proved wrong.
