HMV's current press and in-store 'Daddy Cool' Fathers’ Day campaign, is being boosted this week by a 'Get Closer' style TV advertisement highlighting classic 'Gunslingers, Gangsters and GI' movies that make the perfect gifts for dad.
Transmission is scheduled from Monday June 9 until Father's Day (June 15) and will feature on Channel 4, Channel 5, Dave, Living, ITV2, ITV4.
The ad is a montage of clips from movies including ’Fistful Of Dollars’, ‘Bonnie & Clyde’, ’Assassination Of Jesse James’, ‘Scarface’, ‘Apocalypse Now’ and ‘Platoon’
The featured soundtrack is "I Fought The Law" by the Clash - one of the rare occasions this iconic track has been cleared for use by the band for an advertising campaign.
Head of DVD for HMV, Charles Fotheringham, said, "We've had such a great response to our 'Get Closer' brand campaign over the past year or two, and it's wonderful that the invaluable support of our close partners at the film studios has enabled us to build on the success of our recent Christmas and Valentine's TV ads.
"Over the past year or two all the key calendar events have become more significant commercial opportunities, and even Father's Day, which used to come way behind Valentine's and Mother's Day in terms of gift purchasing is catching up.”
He added, “Mother's Day was huge this year, and this has encouraged us to ramp up our Father's Day activity. We've badged it 'Daddy Cool', and, to tie in with this theme, selected HMV stores will be giving away button badges with related purchases."
