Facebook is to relax its online advertising rules for gaming brands such as online poker sites and casinos.
The new rules will mean that gambling brands – but only those outside of the US - will be able to target consumers, provided that they are aimed at consumers over 18 in countries that allow gambling.
US-based advertisers can place advertisements for online gambling on Facebook, but only if they do not target Americans.
The new rules could impact affiliates keen to use Facebook to target new players.
In addition, UK gambling companies will be able to launch non-gambling apps on the social network – so long as consumers play for 'fun' rather than for credit.
It is believed that lottery commissions and legal dietary supplements could also be promoted through online advertising on the site - with some restrictions.
