The Chartered Institute of Marketing has created a specialised Market Interest Group (MIG) for Social Marketing to address the growing relevance of the platform in society.

Over the last ten years, social marketing has developed as a strategic approach for governments and other organisations aiming to influence positive social and environmental change.

There is growing evidence demonstrating how it can improve and enhance the impact and effectiveness of commercial sector techniques and approaches.

“We believe that social marketing is set to assume a vitally important role in best marketing practice,” said David Thorp, director of research and professional development at The Chartered Institute of Marketing.

“We feel that social marketing is a tremendously important aspect of responsible marketing proving that marketing can be a real force for good.”

The first and newly elected chair of the group, Veronica Sharp, Director of The Social Marketing Practice, added that social marketing was one of the most significant marketing methods available to marketing professionals across the globe.

The Chartered Institute of Marketing’s newly formed Social Marketing MIG is a group for all marketers, throughout the UK, who work in or are interested in social marketing and social marketing techniques.
