Bondi Beach has been taken over by 100 dancers taking part in a flash mob as part of the publicity drive for a Sydney Mardi Gras party, winning praise from Kylie Minogue.
Reminiscent of the T-Mobile dance stunt which saw hundreds staging an apparently impomptu routine at London’s Liverpool Street train station, the Aussies performed routines to a medley of songs.
Tracks included camp classics from Kylie, The Spice Girls, Dolly Parton, Dolly Parton, Whitney Houston and the Village People.
The happening was staged on Saturday, November 14, 2009, by local club DJ Dan Murphy as part of the promotion drive for a party taking place as part of Sydney Mardi Gras, the world famous annual LGBT festival set to take place in March 2010.
Proceedings were led by one of Australia's “most famous and delicious drag queens”, Joyce Maynge.
For almost five minutes she led the masses in a fun routine that caught the attention of passers by and has been made into a video that has since gone viral, attracting more than 100,000 views and rising.
It climaxes with Ms Maynge being carried off towards the sea on a surfboard by members of the Bondi Beach Surf Patrol.
The work has caught the attention of Kylie Minogue, who said on her Twitter feed this week, "****LOVED seeing this..well done peeps***!!!", adding, "Dear Bondi-Flash-Mob......next time can you start or finish with 'SLOW'???!!!"
The following day, Dannii Minogue posted the video on her blog saying, "This is amazing! Dx"
