Music industry brings live gigs to Twitter

Twitter is so hot right now in the marketing world that even bands are present on the micro-blogging site, using it for live gigs called Twitgigs.

The Twitgig Experiment aims to harness the power of Twitter by bring news of live gigs to music lovers from around the capital and to provide a platform to talk about the shows.

Already used by artists such as Imogen Heap, John Mayer and Chris Cornell for short, sharp bursts of comment, reaction, opinion, link-sharing and even tweeting tracks through services such as blip.fm to provide a medium for artists to reach out to their fans.

The Twitgigs Experiment aims to bring this interaction to the live music sphere.

Organisers say that followers will not lose anything from the ’live’ experience of gigs as the goal of Twitgigs is purely to enhance the live gig experience by getting everyone involved. That said, the focus is still all about the music.

Twitgigs believes that Twitter is the perfect medium for bringing together musicians and music lovers. Why? Because haven’t you ever wanted to tell a band how freakin’ awesome they are!?

The first Twitgig Experiment will take place next Thursday (06/08) promising to bring the online interaction to a real world space, combining live entertainment with social technology.

The gigs have already attracted attention from big brands and advertisers including Smirnoff Original Nights.

The Experiment has been following bands on Twitter for the past few months aiming to find musicians that have already reached out to a fan base on the social network.

Bands appearing include Essay Like Nephew, The Seal Club Clubbing Club and Mike Dingham.

Those who make it to the live show will already be following @twitgigs and it’s through this Twitter profile and the #twitgigs hashtag that all the action of the evening will unfold.

Twitgigs have set up a live streaming channel which will be available on to view on its website (www.tinyurl.com/twitgigs) and on its Ustream.tv channel.

Fans will be able to tweet & RT tracks by the bands through twit.fm and pass on the Twitpic link to our flyer.
