How many swear words can a copywriter get into a 25 second monologue? Well, here’s the answer.
A new advert from McCann Erickson, New York, for juice brand, Purity Organic, sees a business man loosing the plot.
How many times does he actually swear? We began to add it up in the office. But then lost count. Or was it interest?
Anyway it’s a hilarious piece of work all the same, as we watch his blood pressure rise, only for the day to be saved by a juice drink.
Experts are predicting it will soon be pulled from Stateside TV networks after complaints from the Parents Television Council, but its popularity is sure to be sustained as it becomes a viral hit.
On a serious marketing note, it cleverly illustrates the rising use of beeps in adverts. The technique has two main purposes.
Firstly, it helps to have stand out in a commercial slot where it’s sandwiched between other ads. If viewers weren’t watching before, a beeped out naughty word is likely to grab their attention.
Secondly, the use of an expletive helps to make brands look edgy.
Pull together comedy and swear tirade and you’re onto a winner.
