Chancellor Alistair Darling has outlined plans in his budget speech for additional government cash to help achieve universal broadband coverage across the UK.
He also set aside £2.5bn to help provide “high skilled jobs of the future”, which creative industries such as technology and digital media and marketing companies will be able to draw from.
"It is vital to ensure the entire country and economy benefits from the digital age," Darling said in the House of Commons."So I am allocating extra funding for digital investment, to help to extend the broadband network to almost every community," he added.
He said the measures will allow the government to deliver the vision set out in the Digital Britain Report. The final Digital Britain report is expected to be presented by Lord Carter in the summer.
