An ‘Anti-Social Networking’ application has been launched to help users suffering from ‘Facebook fatigue’.
Part of the marketing campaign for the latest Paramount Pictures International film, ‘How to Lose Friends and Alienate People’, the feature allows users to cheat at Scrabble, insult a friend and send a crap gift, all mocking the traditional use of Facebook.
Created by PPC Interactive, an additional widget (howtolosefriendswidget.co.uk) allows users to keep up to date with the latest movie news and content from watching the film’s trailer and viewing images.
The full features of ‘Anti-Social Networking’ include the ability to deface a friend’s profile picture and then send it to them, as well as a twist on well-known existing Facebook gifts including ‘Crappy Birthday’ and ‘I Hate You’ balloons, empty pint glasses and dog poo.
The Crap Friends tool work as the opposite of the popular Top Friends application, by creating a list of a users worst friends and letting them know they have made the list, together with a tracker that counts the number of friends a user has gained or lost since you began anti-social networking.
Head of Interactive at PPC, Dan Light, said, “With ‘Anti-Social Networking’ we’ve tried to envisage how the film’s protagonist, Sidney Young, would use Facebook – insulting the false friends he encounters and mocking the way the masses use Facebook, but also provide an engaging application for anyone to enjoy.”
“There’s a sense of public fatigue with Facebook at present which we hope to capitalise on by creating something fun and engaging that pokes fun at the way people use Facebook everyday and the functionality they’re accustomed to.”
