| I've been reading that Nokia are to sponsor the Christmas lights on Regent Street. Now I appreciate Christmas is the biggest time of the year for retailers but is this really necessary? Where will it end? Those in-car pine tree shaped air freshers sponsoring the Christmas tree in Trafalgar Square. Nokia's sponsorship - a step too far? What do you think?

| Well, its like asking why do Orange sponsor festivals. When ever there is a communication campaign like this there must be hard planning and reasoning behind it. As rational customers we may not be able to understand what it is for. It could well be to create action for the christmas sales of mobile phones. Its a complex message which could trigger an arousal to choose that brand over another brand.

| Yes, it is a complex message. A more fitting sponsor would have been a light bulb brand!
