Sony has been accused of plagiarising the work of two artists in it's latest ad. As im sure you all know, the new ad shows coloured rabbits invading Manhattan in New York. The artists (Kozue and Dan Kitchens) have pointed the striking resemblance to a painting of theirs which shows multi coloured rabbits running around in New York.

Oh dear!

Who else thinks the ad isnt all it's been hyped up to be?

It seems as though this was planned a long time ago. Apparently, someone from Passion Pictures contacted the artists almost two years ago asking to see samples of their work (including this panoramic) as they were interested in working with them. They sent them samples and then heard nothing from them ever again. Suspicious me thinks...

i have to state that although the idea is similar the final execution is somewhat different, continuing on that point are their any original ideas anymore?

I would like to stress that the artsists have generated awareness for their designs, could they have better used this to their advantage and in light of them getting all uppety about the whole situation do they come across as hard done by? And in need of some compensation?? Surely they must find it flattering and that should be that?

what are your views?

Yer it's true, no idea in advertising is ever truly original. They are always inspired by something. It's what people have come to expect. Surely it is how it is executed and reworked to sell a new product that is what wins them credit.

And as for the 'plagiarised' artists I agree they had the chance to make the association with the advert strong, and raise awareness of their work with positive connotations. an opportunity that was sadly missed.
