| I've decided to do my dissertation on how the availability of the Internet has influenced marketing and advertising procedures for airlines. I want to compare budget and full service and look at all aspects of the service provided by airlines and how the internet as aided/prevented success. I'm also going to look at how customers have been affected by this and what they think. Is anyone prepared to undergo an online interview for my primary research (must be an plane user at least every year or so). Anyone have opinions on this or know any good sources of information? Thanks

| That's a pretty big area! The internet has been a catlyst for the budget airlines, but they were operating successfully before the internet became a mass market tool. Ryanair, and SouthWest airlines in the USA are good exmaples of that. However Easyjet and then Ryaniar very quickly realised that the could use the internet to accelerate their low cost model, as it allowed them to cut customer service and sales costs. This allows them to offer their low fares. Most importantly, because the internet allowed people to be able to see when the cheapest day to fly was, and plan their holiday around those days, they were able to maximise load. So all the "fly to rome for 1p" promotions you see are down to the use of their web sites as a tool to find the best possible set of flights for you. Its a really big subject, and a there a few reports, like PWC and Jupiter out there I think.

| Can you tell me more about the reports? Where would I get them from? I am going to look at how airlines use the Internet for customer loyalty, customer service and for purchasing. Thanks for your reply

| Hiya, I have just come across your post while searching the internet - I am looking at a similar theme for my dissertation and am carrying out some research at the moment - mainly looking at e-marketing and the impact it has had on airlines - comparing a lowcost carrier to a full service carrier. Did you manage to find the Jupiter and PWC reports referred to below? Many thanks

| Hi, how is the dissatation going? There are other external affects on airlines the internet has such as on mobiles and that it could be possible to integrate the use of mobiles with the internet technology to various advantages
