The new findings from the IAB show that internet advertising has gone up 41.3 per cent year on year growth in the first part of 2007.

What does this mean for us marketers- especially those of us working in DM?

Is it not fair to look at how Internet and Direct Marketing has combined. For example their are lots of 'direct emails' giving a personalized message. DM in the normal sense ie direct mail and so on will still be needed and still used. DM is a major part of the communications process. With technology has meant communications forms have been able to combine together. The Internet has grown because of its cheap mass market, there will still be the need for leaflets sent to homes on so on.

Mobile marketing will see a shift from companies using traditional DM to reach their intended audience, i think conventional direct marketing will be superseeded by cheaper alternatives such as mobile and email marketing which are becoming more advanced and easier to use.

What do you think?

I agree, I have done some work within the communcations sector of mobiles, there are a large number of opportunites in this market, not just for communcations but it can be the devise that no one can live without, i.e you phone could be your credit card, there is also the technogy in a phone where you can zap a barcode and it will tell you where it is cheapist, not being used as of yet but be warned marketeers.
