| I've recently got a new job which I love, but my boss always stays working in the office until 9pm and I feel that I cant go home before him. Should I also work late or should I just go home? I don't want to make a bad impression but I also want a social life and want to see my girlfriend!

| I think it's important that you should have an understanding with your boss, possibly ask if they think it necessary for you to stay late. Everyone's heard horror stories about bad bosses making their staff stay late all the time, and employees who work to hard. Because you've only just started making a good impression is important but make sure your extra efforts are appreciated and you're; a. not working too hard b. not begin taken advantage of Hope this helps Jim

| 9pm every night!! It may also give a bad impression staying. He may have problems managing his work-load (and impressing his boss), but at the end of the day he is being paid more to stay there, at soon as you set a standard, people's expectations of you are greater. I always leave on time (never done me any harm!) I do come in early, work through lunch and stay late if there is a panic or work crisis! Its important to have a life outside work (work hard, play hard!) It means less stress too - join a club or a gym class maybe and let your boss know what day it is - then everyone will know you are leaving on time that night (at least).
