Without question, the best kind of marketing is when your customers start doing it for themselves.
It’s a marketer’s dream. Firstly, it will cost you nothing, and, secondly, nothing beats word of mouth endorsement.
This Christmas women are ensuring they get the lingerie they want, by snapping themselves in it on their camera phones.
Via its national network of retail trend spotters Virgin Mobile has identified this new shopping trend and coined the term ‘Knick Pics’.
The term refers to the growing number of women who are finding the lingerie set they would like their partner to get them for Christmas, trying it on and then getting either a friend or a shop assistant to snap them in it on their camera phones.
Unsurprisingly, men aren’t complaining too loudly about this type of hint from their ladies. No doubt there are showdowns going on at Christmas office parties up and down the country.
The trend has been noted by staff at a number of retail outlets including Ann Summers stores.
Vivien Benson of Ann Summers said “It’s a trend our staff have been noticing more and more, especially in the run up to Christmas.
"Women have realised that if they want to receive the underwear set they want then this is an easy way to make it happen.”
Simon Dornan’s Virgin Mobile said “Picture messaging has changed the way we communicate as a nation.”
