NME, the iconic British rock weekly, has unveiled new series of landmark CDs being covermounted over the next three issues of the magazine.
The CDs feature specially selected tracks by free-thinking indie record labels and demonstrate that Independent Thinking is responsible for some of the best music around.
The first of the three CDs – available with NME on sale today – is compiled by 1965 Records and includes tracks from The View, Ripchord and North London band The Draytones.
CD Two is compiled by Transgressive Records and showcases tracks from The Young Knives, The Subways and eclectic prog-indie act Mystery Jets.
And the final CD in the collectable series is compiled by Modular Records featuring tracks from Wolfmother, The Avalanches and New Young Pony Club.
NME editor Conor McNicholas says: “This CD series showcases what's uniquely great about the British music scene – independent labels nurturing new talent and doing it with passion and originality. This series really is the best of the best new music from the UK scene right now.”
Some of the hottest bands around, including The Gossip, Arctic Monkeys, the Automatic and The Long Blondes, have been discovered by Independent Thinking record labels, which have always had a canny knack for finding and fostering great new talent.
The CD collection caps a fantastic year for NME following the celebration of NME.COM's 10th birthday, the launch of a dedicated Irish edition of the magazine, numerous award wins, the extension of the brand to the US with the launch of Club NME NYC and LA and most recently the launch of the NME Presents Essential Bands 2006 double CD, on sale now.
