Argos, the UK’s leading multi-channel retailer, has appointed iris PR with a new consumer news generation brief following a three way pitch, with the agency beginning work immediately for the retailer.
The three year contract will see iris PR managing proactive and reactive news campaigns for the high street giant to national and consumer media, as well as creating a series of robust regional media activities to support their 700 stores across the country.
The programme will focus on generating creative news angles that give Argos share of voice in key titles and strategically promote the company’s key messages.
iris PR first worked with Argos last year on a project to promote iTeDDy, one of the must-have toys for Christmas. The agency picked up the project just two weeks before the launch but successfully helped to establish the toy as one of last year’s hot properties with journalists.
According to Victoria Adamson, Consumer PR Manager for Argos, “We had a fantastic experience working with iris PR on the iTeDDy launch. Their enthusiasm and can-do attitude impressed us and so we invited them to pitch for this brief.
"During the pitch process they again demonstrated a positive attitude along with strategic thinking, creativity and strong retail experience. This allied with their understanding of integrated campaigns made them the right choice for us. We are looking forward to working with them again and producing some great work in the years ahead.”
Iris PR managing director, Bill McIntyre, and new director, Laura Mahon, will jointly head the account. Bill commented: “The retail market is hugely competitive, but Argos has a unique proposition on the high street with a multi-channel approach that places consumer convenience at the heart of the brand giving us a great story to tell to media. We are delighted with the win and are looking forward to delivering some significant news campaigns for them over the coming months.”
Part of the iris Group, iris PR delivers a mix of media relations and brand communications services, for clients ranging from Wonderbra and Brown Forman to Network Rail and the Internet Watch Foundation.
Sputnik Communications’ five year relationship with Argos, covering product placement, catalogue launches and other consumer-facing PR activity remains unaffected.
