London, 25 October 2007 - Barbour, the British clothing firm has appointed NetNames, Europe’s leading domain name management specialist to protect its rapidly growing brand online.
Barbour will be using NetNames’ Platinum Service, which also protects the online brands for a third of the FTSE 100 companies, to manage its domain name portfolio. With Barbour’s rapid international expansion over the last few years the clothing company needed to gain control of all relevant domain names, identify potential threats and infringements and safeguard future products online.
Claire Saunders, head of marketing at Barbour commented, “Barbour’s strong international growth has been reinforced by our use of the Internet to promote our latest lines. Our online brand has subsequently grown so strongly that we needed to work with an international specialist to ensure our online brands remain protected. NetNames’ reputation and experience in each of our key international markets made it the logical choice.”
NetNames’ Platinum Service will centralise the management of Barbour’s domain names ensuring they are not allowed to lapse and fall into the hands of competitors or cybersquatters. NetNames’ Platinum Service will also give Barbour greater visibility of competitor and speculator activity online, which could constitute brand infringement. A senior account manager at NetNames will advise Barbour on its online brand protection strategy.
Jonathan Robinson, chief operating officer at NetNames commented, “The fashion industry is one that is particularly attractive for online speculators and as Barbour has grown it has proactively taken measures to ensure its online brands are fully protected. Working with Barbour we will ensure that its brands remain secure online and that the Internet can continue to contribute to its growth.”
NetNames is part of London listed Group NBT plc (LSE: NBT). Through its industry leading domain name management service, NetNames Platinum Service, the company is responsible for managing and protecting online brands for international corporates, including in excess of 30% of the FTSE 100.
