M-commerce infographics - five of the best

By Lucinda Southern, junior reporter, UTalkMarketing

In homage to our telecommunications and mobile hot topic week, in conjunction with Siegel+Gale, this week’s infographics focus on mobile commerce.

Several weeks ago the e-commerce infographics we published verified an assumption that the benefits of buying online often outweigh the more conventional rigmarole of having to leave the house. Couple this with the rise in android and internet accessible smartphones, and the boom in m-commerce is hardly surprising.

In addition, this also opens up attractive prospects for brands marketing their products, especially when research shows that most users access the internet via their phone whilst also engaging in other activities, such as watching tv. The scope for marketing via online mobile interaction is huge.

So to keep up with the latest trends on these digital wallets, we’ve brought you the internet's top offering in infographics: who uses m-commerce, how they do it, and who benefits.

How we use mobile web

This infographic offers a handy insight into how we treat the internet on our hand held devices, and in which scenarios, proving how truly mobile the web is. This also points to how we chose to multi-task whilst surfing.

The Microsoft Tag team developed this infograph, offering great detail on the facts of m-commerce, such as the introduction of the mobile barcode, (QR code). With also some interesting visuals on the role of coupons, particularly Groupon, in this revolution. This offers valuable information to the marketer as well as points of intrigue for the consumer.

Mobile warming

Packed with statistics, albeit slightly Ameri-centric ones, this diagram highlights some surprising trends. What is useful are the figures on what activities drive m-commerce, and travel - perhaps understandably - still seems to be dominating the market.

Goodbye wallets

This has its own estimated global mobile purchase for 2015 (a staggering $670bn compared to Microsoft's $119bn). However here we focus on detailing the payment method, particularly the process behind near field communications and the main competitors in the field. Worth remembering is that this doesn't touch on other mobile purchasing devices, such as QR codes.

The mobile payment processing market

Rather than simply cleaving the m-commerce market into Google and Apple app stores, this handy pictogram opens out the mobile market into m-tickets, m-coupons and m-commerce. Two things resonate in this final infographic; the wider spread willingness within developing countries to purchase via m-commerce, and the possible opportunities for aid relief through the mobile market.
