Global infographics - five of the best

By Lucinda Southern, junior reporter, UTalkmarketing

There is no denying the power of the individual. However, where infographics have proven very useful is in representing the feelings and habits of a nation: vast statistics conveyed in pictoral and easily digestible nuggets. They often reveal surprising results, dismantling global assumptions and challenging preconceived ideas.

This week we’ve brought you an offering of the web’s most informative infographics from continents and nations around the globe. Prepare to be a little shocked and, not least, a little bemused by what they reveal.

Public opinion in the Untied States

The concept of this infographic is so nationally and visually semantic it's a wonder that it hasn't been thought of before. A series of statistics were transformed to replicate the nations' flag for a political campaign in a Portuguese magazine. This particular one conveys the opinion towards the war in Iraq.

Red: in favor of war.

White: against war.

Blue: don't know where Iraq is.

Facts on Africa

This diagram speaks for itself, yet still holds a few surprises and dismissed home truths. Each graphical fact demonstrates a part of what makes Africa appear such a diverse and conflicted continent to the rest of the world, and further emphasises the immensity of the land.

The numbers behind China

Fast establishing itself as a global super giant, these stats on China clearly demonstrate that they have the man power worthy of this status. It is no wonder that their history eclipses that of many other countries. But what will always be surprising is how recent modern China is, and the rate at which they technologically and digitally advanced themselves in the last half a century.

Latin America: The next social media super power

This title may seem surprising considering that only 35% of Latin American residents actually have internet access. None the less these are the facts. The South American rate of ascension up the ranks is quite amazing, whilst other countries (the UK and the US) have reached a saturation point, taking the users of these countries out of the running for supporting new advancements and pushing for innovative approaches.
