RendezVous353.com - the global Irish, and Irish connected, business and social networking website - held its UK launch with a big party on November 25th in London, where the website is targeting the large Irish community in the capital, believed to run into millions when second and third generation Irish are included.
The aim of RendezVous353.com is to connect, inform and entertain and to facilitate the sharing of knowledge, job opportunities and networking among all people with an Irish connection around the world.
"RendezVous353.com is especially appropriate during these challenging times," said Limerick-based co-founder Richard O'Donnell, one of the world's original "dotcom" multimillionaires, resulting from the sale of Software Architects International in 2000.
O'Donnell's co-founder, Terry McLoughlin, is originally from County Mayo and is a Chartered Surveyor and member of the Royal Institute of Chartered Surveyors. He has recently been working as contracts manager on a $100m development in Kazakhstan, before which, he was based in Qatar, so he is well aware of the realities currently being experienced by so many Irish people of having to leave Ireland to find suitable employment.
The RendezVous353 name uses the universally recognised word for "meeting", combined with the international dialling code for the Republic of Ireland. The networking website is aimed at the 80m strong global Irish Diaspora.
As this significant global diaspora also includes more than 10% of the UK population, London was the obvious location for the UK launch. The website's London Group has gained more than 1,000 members in the past month or so, bringing total membership to more than 12,000.
At the launch, O'Donnell announced a strategic partnership between RendezVous353.com and Ireland.com, to provide social and business networking services to Ireland.com.
Owned by the Irish Times Newspaper group, Ireland.com is the definitive guide to what's happening in Ireland and is part of Digitalworx, the digital division of the Irish Times, which has 75m page impressions per month. Under the deal, users of Ireland.com will be able to click on a link directly to RendezVous353.com, allowing them to browse and join. The integration between these two leading Irish websites will go live in early December.
O'Donnell later revealed that RendezVous353.com is keen to do a similar deal with a UK-based newspaper. It was also announced, on the night, that The Irish Guide Dogs for the Blind has been chosen as RendezVous353's charity partner and both organisations look forward to working together.
RendezVous353.com met with Irish Government's Foreign Minister Micháel Martin earlier in 2010, when he gave his verbal support to the project.
In addition, his department's Irish Abroad Unit is keen for the Irish community in the UK and worldwide to be made aware of RendezVous353.com and has been supportive in helping to spread the word of RendezVous353's unique global Irish, business and social network.
