ESC Events has been appointed by The Sun to oversee all event creation, production and management of The Sun Military Awards 2010: A Night of Heroes.
The Military Awards (the Millies) honours and awards military personnel who in the past year have made enormous sacrifices and served their country with the highest distinction. It focuses on the excellence of Her Majesty’s Armed Forces both on the frontline and in more routine operations.
‘The Millies’ are an annual opportunity to recognise and honour the high calibre of service personnel in the UK. There are 11 awards in total and each one is open to all serving members of the UK Armed Forces, with the exception of the 'Support to the Armed Forces' award, which is specifically for civilians.
ESC Events will create, produce and direct The Millies, which will be held at The Imperial War Museum on 15th December and will be screened on ITV1. This is the third year running that ESC Events will be responsible for organising the evening, where members of the Royal Family and numerous celebrities will present awards.
The night will feature two drinks receptions (one attended by the award nominees and their partners) along with members of the Royal Family, the other attended by all the other guests including senior Ministry of Defence personnel and well-known celebrities. After the drinks receptions, guests will attend a formal dinner and the awards will be presented. The dining area will be centred around a glittering stage with a large screen broadcasting the presentation of each award to the audience. Short films about the nominees will be screened telling their stories and explaining the reasons behind the nomination.
Performances from star names including will follow the award presentations, in previous years the entertainment has included X Factor winners Alexandra Burke and Joe McElderry and comedian Al Murray and string divas Escala. ESC Events has a huge logistical challenge with only 39 hours to produce, build and take down the event as the Imperial War Museum can only be closed to the public for a single day.
John Wickens, chief executive of ESC Events, says: “We are honoured to be supporting The Millies – it’s an absolute privilege to have been selected to produce an awards ceremony that recognises the bravery and sacrifices made by Her Majesty’s Armed Forces as they achieve excellence, often in the most testing of conditions. I can think of no more rewarding a project than to produce an evening celebrating the enormous contribution our troops make to our country – we hope to do them proud.”
