Acxiom, the global leader in interactive marketing services, has been awarded the Direct Marketing Association UK (DMA)’s new ‘DataSeal’ certification, the trade body’s first UK industry standard for data security.
The standard was launched in January this year, since when only a few marketing services companies have gone through the full audit and validation process, which is carried out by British Standards Institute. Acxiom was keen to achieve the certification to show its customers how seriously it takes data security.
The DataSeal is an alternative to the ISO 27001 security accreditation, and entails a thorough analysis, measuring companies against predefined standards, rather than against self-determined criteria under ISO 27001.
It sets requirements and performance levels for:
• Traceability and responsibility of data
• Acceptable use policies
• Access control and passwords
• Virus/spyware prevention, internet security and the security of the server, network and other systems
• Back-ups, data storage and elimination.
Neil Matthews, UK privacy officer at Acxiom, commented: “Organisations looking for a company to handle their data marketing solutions need to have full confidence in that company’s systems and processes, so they know for sure that their customers’ data is fully protected."
