In time for the Autumn Series this November digital marketing agency MCM Net has created a viral game for the Welsh Rugby Union, the governing body of rugby union for Wales.
Following the infamous Haka stand-off during last year’s Autumn Series which saw Wales and the All Blacks menacingly eyeballing each other for a good few minutes before the game, the WRU wanted a game which re-enacted the electric scene.
The notorious Haka stand-off now has great significance in Welsh rugby history, and therefore it made sense to base the game on it so that Welsh rugby supporters could relate to the game concept and enjoy re-enacting the scene themselves.
The WRU wanted to send out the game link to their database of subscribers via newsletter, so it was important that the game promoted the 2009 Autumn Series and encouraged people to buy tickets to the games, which are taking place at the Millennium Stadium this November.
In response MCM Net created ‘Patriotic Games’, a viral game where players must stare their All Blacks opponents out for as long as possible. The game is aimed at Welsh rugby supporters and hopes to increase ticket sales for the Autumn Series by parodying last year’s infamous Haka stand-off between Wales and New Zealand.
As if it couldn’t get any better, the WRU are offering some fantastic prizes to the three highest scorers who submit their contact details- The first prize up for grabs includes two tickets to the Wales vs Australia match and a signed Wales rugby shirt, the second prize is a signed rugby ball and the third is two tickets to Wales vs Australia.
Richard Rapley, Sales & Marketing Director at MCM Net said, “Naturally we were very excited about getting the chance to work with the WRU. The creative guys have done a fabulous job, portraying the Welsh and New Zealand Rugby players perfectly and using video/sound and a unique creative approach to really convey the importance of the stand-off to Welsh rugby fans. Great game and great client and good luck to the Welsh in the forthcoming autumn series!”
The game is displayed on the Welsh Rugby Union official site and a link embedded in a WRU newsletter which will be sent out to subscribers of the website. If you think you’ve got what it takes to stare out those All Blacks, why not play the game at patriotic-games.co.uk.
