Ten Alps appoints Franklin Rae

Ten Alps appoints Franklin Rae

Factual media company Ten Alps PLC has appointed broadcast PR specialist, Franklin Rae, to build the profile of its television businesses both in the domestic and international marketplaces.

Alex Connock, CEO, Ten Alps PLC, says: “We are really proud of our TV production companies, their consistently ‘champions league’ status in high quality documentaries, and the fact that each really does stand for something journalistically unique - from fly on the wall to diplomatic storytelling.

The output in 2009 so far has been phenomenal, from Iran and the West to Congo’s Forgotten Children for Dispatches, to Murder Mansion.  We’ve asked Franklin Rae to help develop that distinctiveness and quality in the press coverage.  We’re not after creative homogeneity in our output: we’re celebrating the range.”

Franklin Rae will be working on a new brief covering four Ten Alps-owned production companies, listed below.  Ten Alps itself meanwhile continues its relationship with Pelham in overall corporate and City PR.

·         Brook Lapping – described by the Wall Street Journal as “the Rolls Royce of documentary-makers”, its genre-defining productions include Iran and the West,  The Death of Yugoslavia, and Elusive Peace
·         Films of Record – renowned for gaining access to closed institutions, its portfolio includes Thames Valley Police, which helped change the way the police deal with rape victims, and BAFTA award-winning Feltham Sings, a co-production with Century Films, which portrayed a group of young offenders in a new light
·         Blakeway Productions – with offices in London and Manchester, Blakeway’s award-winning productions hold a window up to the world with a slate including the Emmy-nominated 9/11: The Twin Towers co-produced with Dangerous Films, The Last Days of Tony Blair, and The Secret of the Austrian Cellar
·         Below The Radar – acquired by Ten Alps early this year, Belfast-based Below The Radar’s current affairs and hard-edged factual output includes Ireland and the Arms Trade, The Nolan Interview with Bill Clinton, as well as on-line news and digital content.

Jill Franklin, Managing Director, Franklin Rae, says: “Over the past few years Ten Alps PLC has established itself as one of the most ambitious players in the media sector.  Whilst it has a strong group recognition, there is a fantastic opportunity for its television businesses to build their individual profiles on the national and international stage. We see some very exciting opportunities for them both domestically and globally.”

Ten Alps is one of the UK's leading producers of factual broadcast television, and is at the forefront of high-quality, cost-effective digital and online TV for specialist audiences.  As well as owning the four production businesses above, Ten Alps has a major role in the government-funded digital and online TV channel Teachers TV, which it has just been reappointed to run on behalf of the Department for Children, Schools & Families.  All of these operations are housed within Ten Alps’ Content division, whose business model is to produce and sell high-value content.

Franklin Rae, formed in 2003, is one of the UK’s leading specialist media PR companies. Working with companies which are helping to shape the future of entertainment for the industry and the consumer, Franklin Rae works with some of the leading players in the field.  From those working in content creation, delivery and exploitation to international distribution, licensing, merchandising and all aspects of IP and brand development, the agency’s clients include independent production companies, creative agencies, licensors, broadcasters, distributors, DVD publishers and professional service providers.

Franklin Rae has become particularly known for its work with ambitious media companies, helping them grow through increased profile and contributing to the successful sale of many high-profile businesses, including Darlow Smithson (sold to American media giant IMG), Lion Television (sold to one of the UK’s largest media groups All3Media) and Carnival Films (sold to the US’s NBC).
