More than 50 per cent of couples leave their children at home when they go on holiday in the hope it will bring them some peace and quiet
That's according t research by the leading online tour operator lowcostbeds.com.
An extensive marketing survey of couples with children aged under 16 in the UK has revealed that 27 per cent of couples “regularly” leave their children under the care of other trusted adults when they go on holiday.A further 24 per cent say they leave their children “occasionally” to take a break abroad.
The marketing research of more than 1,000 couples found that the most popular excuse for leaving the kids at home was to have some time away from the chores of being a parent (23 per cent).A further 19 per cent said they went on holiday without their children to re-stoke some romance in their relationship.
While 17 per cent of respondents said their children did not want to go on holiday with them and 14 per cent said it was too expensive to always go on a family holiday.Eight per cent of couples said they were unable to take their children out of school and six per cent said the destination they visited was unsuitable for children.
Family relatives are the most popular choice of adults for parents to hand their children over to before they set off.Grandparents look after the children the most with 43 per cent of respondents saying they turn to their parents for help. Uncles and aunts are the second most popular choice (28 per cent) ahead of godparents and family friends (21 per cent).
However, the length of time most couples holiday without their children for is just a long weekend.Four in ten parents (39 per cent) said they are only happy to holiday without their kids for up to four nights.
While 32 per cent said they were comfortable to spend up to seven nights away from their children. Only 29 per cent said they go away for more than a week.
