French car brand Citroën will be sponsoring the awards for top jockey and trainer at this years Cheltenham Festival proving that sport sponsorship for big brands isn't dead in the water yet.
The Citroën Leading Rider Award and Citroën Leading Trainer Award will be presented on Friday 13th March, to the jockey and trainer who win the most races during next week’s highlight of the Jump racing season, with the number of second, third and fourth places being taken into account if necessary.
Citroën will also be running a VIP Shuttle service at the racecourse and showcasing the new Citroën C3 Picasso to over 200,000 on-course spectators across the four days of the Festival.
Cheltenham’s Director of Sponsorship Peter McNeile said: “We are delighted to be welcoming Citroën back to The Festival. The company has long been a friend to racing and its sponsorship of the Citroën Leading Rider and Trainer awards will add further lustre to these two most eagerly contested prizes. The Festival really is one of the jewels in the crown of UK sporting events and as such it captures a significant audience with an enviable demographic, both on-course and via TV, the Internet and radio. Undoubtedly, this is why it continues to be so attractive to sponsors and marketers.”

The winning trainer and jockey will both receive a perpetual trophy, and the Citroën Leading Trainer will receive £1,000 for his or her stable staff and the Citroën Leading Rider will receive £1,000 for Racing Welfare.
