Knifedge, the London-based creative network, has designed two new Christmas idents for BBC Entertainment, one of BBC Worldwide’s portfolio of international channels.
The new idents are designed to introduce BBC Entertainment’s range of award-winning dramas, comedies and light entertainment programmes to international audiences.
The two executions both feature ‘fairy dancers’ suspended below illuminated Heliospheres, floating gently across lakes and landscapes at dusk, sprinkling festive sparkles. For comedy and light entertainment shows, the ident features a Northern Lights effect in the sky to reflect the beginning of the magic hour. The second darker version has a more night-time feel, featuring a burst of fireworks along a night-lit shoreline, and a cooler moonlit ending to sit more comfortably alongside programmes such as ‘Waking the Dead’ or ‘Silent Witness’.
The sequences were entirely produced and created in-house at Knifedge, using a combination of Shake, After Effects and DS Nitris. Knifedge was appointed to the job following a three-way pitch in late October.

The new idents will air from mid December 2008 in all regions where BBC Entertainment is available. This includes Poland, Korea, Hong Kong, India, Malaysia, Singapore, Mexico, Thailand and South Africa.
