London based research firm, acefieldwork, known for their excellence in field research, has come up trumps with a new technological addition to their resources known as FlexiHalls®.
Until recently, hall tests requiring immediate feedback of data, and therefore utilising online technology, often provided a challenge to field-based researchers due to the lack of suitable venues with hardwired broadband connections across the UK. Venues with broadband, such as internet cafes, have been generally unsuitable for the demands of hall tests and are often limited to major urban areas.
A new client relationship and project required acefieldwork to revisit its capacity for offering fast and reliable web-based data collection within hall tests throughout the UK. The project in question was ad-testing research; 25 minute survey, 600 respondents, 9 locations including rural spots across the UK.
So what’s it all about? The creation is a mobile hub which connects up to 10 laptops to the internet using a 2Mb wireless connection. It can be used wherever there is a 3G network, meaning acefieldwork is now able to provide online surveys to clients from almost any UK location – and so the term FlexiHall® is born.
This technology will help alleviate issues of nationally representative sampling, particularly in rural areas. The benefits of this are huge when compared to traditional mobile ‘dongles’; their speed and capacity is more than enough to ensure smooth running of online surveys and instant downloading of raw data back to the server.
