Over one billion emails and one billion winks have been sent globally on the match.com site since 2001.
To celebrate these milestones and demonstrate its commitment to keeping members at the heart of the business, the online dating site held the ‘match100’ consumer panel at a event in central London.
Match.com knew email conversations are sparking into romance across the UK with hundreds of thousands of successful matches being made every year, but it wanted to make sure it was providing members with the best possible service so it devised the ‘match100’, a panel of Match.com customers past and present to share their experiences and dating tips.
Some of the panel were hitched as a result of the online dating site, some were in love and others were still having fun dating, but their job was clear-they had to consult on new services and provide valuable on-the-ground view of the search of love in 21st Century Britain.
The first task for the ‘match100’ was the compilation of an “insider’s guide” to online dating drawing on and sharing their own experiences.
Jason Stockwood, MD International for match.com explained the theory behind the campaign.
“Ten years on from the launch of the very first dating websites in the UK, online dating has hit the mainstream. We have always placed the needs of match members at the heart of our business because looking for love is such a personal experience.
The ‘match100’ is a vocal, diverse group of all ages from across the nation and their opinions and experiences will make a huge impact on our business.”
The ‘match100’ included:
· Kelly , London: New to London, Kelly joined the site after being persuaded by a friend. She decided that match.com would be a great way to establish relationships with people who, like her, were simply too busy to find the time to get out and meet new people.
· Lynn & Martin, Manchester: Both Lynn and Martin had a few preconceptions of online dating, but following their initial emails in April 2007 they then met up for a first date and say they both knew it was love at first sight. They are now planning a wedding in August of next year. Now converts, four of Martin’s colleagues at work followed his lead and also found their partners on the website.
· Kate & John, Surrey: Married after meeting on the site during a free trial in August 2000. John was at the top of Kate’s list of matches and after their very first date, Kate knew she’d met the man she was going to marry. John proposed in December a year later and their first son Tom was born in 2003, followed by younger brother Harry this year.
