A UK company has pioneered an alternative method of web-based communication allowing businesses to keep in touch with customers without resorting to email.
According to recent statistics, almost 93 per cent of email messages are classified as spam, a rise of 147 per cent in the last 12 months.
Businesses are finding it more difficult to market and communicate directly to their customers as inboxes become congested with emails.
CEO of elertz says, Steve Morris, "Businesses can be so focused on 'pushing' information to their customers that often the key messages about the product or service are lost.
“End users who are able to stay in control and manage information are more likely to respond positively to businesses providing important services or innovative new products."
Elertz is a free Internet toolbar that provides an entirely new alerting system for businesses to communicate with their customers.
Information is delivered to end users who have requested specific information from websites by a simple alerting system - a flashing red star - located in their desktop browser.
Business websites using elertz are updated every 30 seconds, ensuring customers are alerted to specifically requested information immediately as any changes occur.
Applications might include banks wishing to alert customers to changes in their account such as withdrawals, statements or when it goes overdrawn.
Customers wanting to purchase a new house could be alerted as soon as a suitable property comes to market via an estate agent's website; dating websites could alert users when their ideal partner registers; or customers could 'jump the queue' when tickets for that all-important concert go on sale and an alert is received from an online ticketing website.
With phishing and spam emails predicted to rise in 2007, businesses are looking for more effective ways to prevent this impacting their businesses.
Steve Morris advises, "The only real way to prevent spam and social engineering techniques, such as phishing, is to use another broadcast communication channel that is not email based.”
