Manchester’s legendary cultural hotspot, GreenRoom, has celebrated its 25th anniversary with a re-branding exercise by fellow Manchester business, Reform Creative.
GreenRoom is one of Europe’s leading centres for extraordinary new performance. It encourages and presents emerging creative talent in visual performance, live art, dance, installation, and the spoken word.
25 years on, and GreenRoom felt the time was right for a new, more dynamic image – as Artistic Director Garfield Allen explained:
“Although we’d grown attached to our old branding, we felt it time for a change to something that really reflects greenroom’s experimental values and aspirations.”
Following a new-look season brochure produced by Reform earlier this year, it was decided to commission the arts-sector specialists for GreenRoom’s re-branding exercise.
Commenting on being appointed for such an important landmark project, Reform’s Paul Heaton said:
“Our roots are set firmly in the arts and culture scene so we are thrilled to be working with GreenRoom.
“The first phase in the re-branding exercise was to produce a bold, contemporary logo. We used 3-D type to represent space and dimension,” said Paul, “whilst the positive and negative type depicts the varied – and sometimes opposing – events that appear at GreenRoom.
“Another important element was to make sure the logo could be used both during and after the 25th anniversary. And although the design is cutting-edge right now, we hope we don’t have to wait 25 years to design the next GreenRoom logo!”
This is one of many successful branding projects which Reform has put together for arts-based clients – notably, for Warrington Borough Council’s arts and entertainment centre, Pyramid and Parr Hall; the ‘Celebrating Indian Cinema’ exhibition for the National Media Museum in Bradford; and also for the new North West photography exhibition, ‘Seen’.
