Camden Council is using Twitter to bring a personal touch to its integrated Christmas shopping advertising campaign – claiming a first for a local authority.
Followers of @lovecamden have been asked what they would do with £1,000 - the ‘golden ticket’ cash prize on offer for using independent shops in the borough.
The three best answers are now featuring on bus stop posters across the borough, forming part of the council’s ongoing love your local high street campaign, supporting independent traders in the borough.
Conversations about the campaign were generated across, including pick up by three marketing experts in Germany holding up the campaign as an example of using social media as a dialogue, not broadcast.
Despite running for only 48 hours, the competition attracted 80 clicks on the relevant web page within the first hour and 222 in total. Of the 24 entries that were tweeted, 10 were long listed and published on camden.gov.uk
“The Love Camden campaign has already won celebrity backing with local residents Giles Coren and Ricky Gervais urging shoppers to take part,” said Executive Member for Community Development and Planning, Councillor Andrew Marshall.
“We hope our Twitter enthusiasts - of which I am one - will inspire even more people to come and do their Christmas shopping in Camden.”
