Apple has dominated this year’s CoolBrands list, with the iPhone, the company itself and its iPod all making the top five spots in the annual SuperBrands survey.
The iPhone, in the top spot, has been a phenomenon, with more than five million sold in just the three months to the end of last June.
Apple's touch-screen gadget has overtaken James Bond car maker Aston Martin (in second spot) in an annual list of 20 products and companies that people most want to have or use.
This year marks the first time in three years that Aston Martin has not come first. It is more desirable than a flash Ferrari (15) or expensive Rolex (19) watch, say marketing experts.
Technology brands have dominated the list of coolest brands in Britain this year. Apple’s iPod ranked fourth, coming ahead of online brands YouTube (6), Google (8) and BlackBerry (7), while Apple itself was ranked number three.
Facebook dropped down three places this year and is out of the Top 20. The BBC’s on demand television service iPlayer was the only new entry to reach the Top 20.
Gaming giant Nintendo, maker of the Wii, has shot up the list - along with the PlayStation 3 and Microsoft Xbox consoles - as affordable technology and gadgets replace costlier luxury marques.
The survey which is carried out by The Centre for Brand Analysis, identifies the 500 coolest brands in the UK and is compiled via an expert judging panel and public opinion based on six factors including the brand’s style, innovation, originality, and desirability.
Stephen Cheliotis, chairman of the CoolBrands council and CEO of the Centre for Brand Analysis, said: "The iPhone is something everyone's been talking about. There has been such a buzz around it - and people that haven't got one, want one.
"But what we've also seen this year is people want something that is aspirational but that's not going to break the bank. Consoles like the Wii are fun and enjoyable as well as being innovative."
Meanwhile, Stella Artois, has entered the 2009/10 list. Cheliotis added, “Stella Artois’s inclusion on the CoolBrands List 2009/10 shows that Stella Artois is a leading figure in its sector.
Competition to be seen as one of the coolest brands in the UK is as fierce as ever and clearly Stella Artois is delivering in the eyes of experts and the public.”
